To err is human. To err is inevitable for all, being not perfect. Still, no one wants to remain imperfect. There is an element within all that is animate that tends towards perfection. If it were not so, we would feel no want at all. Our tendency towards perfection is certainly very weak and limited; otherwise we could attain the goal at once. Our limited capacity and tendency for perfection makes room for Sri Guru and his grace.

The imperfect is not so if it is not in need of help, and that also from beyond itself. The perfect is not perfect if He cannot assert Himself or help others, and that too, of His own accord. So the guidance to perfection or Absolute Truth is necessarily a function of the absolute Himself, and the divine agent through whom this function manifests is Sri Guru or the divine guide.

Based upon the Vedic version and his own unique experiences as a bhakti-yogi spanning almost six decades, Swami Narasingha cuts through the superficial hype and monistic misconceptions that surround yoga today. He brings us back to the basic understanding of what yoga truly is – namely the theistic path of spiritual perfection. At a time when so many seekers of the truth look towards the east for answers to life’s questions, Yoga Vichar is a timely publication and it is our hope that the reader will obtain guidance and benefit from this book.

This collection of articles and talks by Narasingha Maharaja is a supremely beautiful glorification of Srila Prabhupada and a delineation of the guru principle found within Gaudiya Vaisnava siddhanta.

As the author himself expresses –

“The greatness of Srila Prabhupada is not understood or expressed by concoction or sentimental exaggeration. The transcendental position of His Divine Grace can only be realised when one understands how Srila Prabhupada is connected to the parampara of great masters, and what qualifications earned him that illustrious position. The bona-fide disciple earns this right of divine vision through a lifetime of service and dedication at the lotus feet of the spiritual master not by any amount of mundane speculation. There is no other way to the truth than this.”

Almost everyone, including scientists, religionists and philosophers, are apparently in pursuit of truth. Yet, what is truth and how do we find it? Scientists have complete confidence in the scientific process, yet, we see that the latest theories are eventually replaced by more advanced theories. Every theory, they say, is a step closer to perfection, but they never assert that they have reached perfection.

When the scientific community truly comes of age it will see that the Vedic knowledge, its seers and practitioners are their real friends and partners in the search for ultimate truth and have been so for several millennia.

This book – Vedic Science and History, gives a detailed overview of the various contributions of Indian civilisation and it is our hope that this will help the reader discover and appreciate the many wondrous scientific contributions of the ancient Vedic culture of India.
