Almost everyone, including scientists, religionists and philosophers, are apparently in pursuit of truth. Yet, what is truth and how do we find it? Scientists have complete confidence in the scientific process, yet, we see that the latest theories are eventually replaced by more advanced theories. Every theory, they say, is a step closer to perfection, but they never assert that they have reached perfection.

When the scientific community truly comes of age it will see that the Vedic knowledge, its seers and practitioners are their real friends and partners in the search for ultimate truth and have been so for several millennia.

This book – Vedic Science and History, gives a detailed overview of the various contributions of Indian civilisation and it is our hope that this will help the reader discover and appreciate the many wondrous scientific contributions of the ancient Vedic culture of India.

Swami B.B. Vishnu (David H. Osborn) graduated from Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, New York in 1968 with a Master of Science degree in Physics. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, in 1965. As a candidate for a doctorate (Ph. D) degree, Swami Vishnu underwent his pre-doctoral studies under a traineeship from the North American Space Agency (NASA). Swami Vishnu also served as a research assistant sponsored by the then Atomic Energy Commission. During his tenure as a scientist, Swami Vishnu published a number of scientific papers in the field of space radiation dosimetry, and energetic-neutron spectrometry.

In years to come, Swami Vishnu became inspired by the teachings of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and was formally initiated by him in 1975. After the passing of Prabhupada in 1977, Swami Vishnu met Swami B. G. Narasingha and the two of them began a unique programme known as the Museum of Vedic Culture – an exhibition that taught people about Indian culture, history and philosophy.

In 1986 Swami Vishnu received the order of sannyasa and the title ‘Swami’ from Swami Narasingha.

Swami Vishnu was the associate editor and Sanskrit editor of magazines such as Clarion Call , Gaudiya Vedanta and Saranagati and is currently the science editor and writer for Gaudiya Touchstone e-magazine. He has also published a number of books, articles and videos on Indian culture and Vedic science.

Since 1994 Swami Vishnu has resided in Sri Narasingha Chaitanya Ashram in Karnataka, South India, where he teaches and writes articles on the relation between modern science and the Vedic theological perspective and the many contributions of ancient India to science and world culture.
